Beginning Your Baby’s Food Journey with Confidence
Starting solid foods is an exciting milestone—but it can also bring a lot of questions, confusion, and pressure for parents.
As an Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counsellor trained through the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), I help families navigate responsive, developmentally appropriate, and evidence-based complementary feeding after six months of age.
These sessions are designed to help you feel informed, calm, and confident as you introduce food to your baby—without fear, pressure, or expectations of perfection. FAQ
When should I start solids for my baby?
Most babies are ready for complementary feeding around six months of age when they achieve specific developmental milestones.
What are the signs that my baby is ready for solids?
Key readiness signs include sitting well with support, maintaining good head control, showing active interest in your food, bringing objects accurately to their mouth, and a diminished tongue-thrust reflex (where they no longer automatically push food out of their mouth).
What should I feed my baby first?
There is no single “perfect first food.” Families can begin with soft, nutrient-dense, age-appropriate whole foods while gradually introducing a variety of tastes and textures.
What if my baby refuses food?
Food refusal is a completely normal part of the learning curve. Learning to eat is a brand-new skill. Babies simply need time, repeated low-pressure exposure, and relaxed opportunities to explore.
Is gagging normal?
Yes. Gagging is a normal, healthy, protective reflex that helps babies learn to manage new textures and practice chewing. Our session will thoroughly cover how to confidently differentiate between normal gagging and a true choking emergency.
Can I continue breastfeeding after starting solids?
Absolutely 🤍 Breastmilk or formula remains the primary and most important source of nutrition during your baby’s first year. Solids are meant to complement milk, not replace it entirely right away.
Do you support Baby-Led Weaning (BLW)?
Yes. I support responsive, baby-led approaches while tailoring the method to match the safety, comfort, and practical lifestyle needs of your family.
Is this session only for babies just starting solids?
No. I also provide extensive support for older babies and toddlers experiencing texture difficulties, picky eating behavior, low appetite, and stressful mealtimes.
